Mayhem
Bathory
Burzum
Emperor

All that stuff?
I personally really like Celtic Frost, even that they veered outside of black metal

Because if I'm gonna be a part of making this forum work, it might as well have a thread.

Contemporary Music / Re: Xenakis

If I'm being totally honest and not feeling the need to list people like Bach/Beethoven/Mozart or even Debussy/Schoenberg/Stravinsky out of historical necessity, Xenakis would probably be my third favorite composer, but that third place spot can be hotly contested.

Yeah 200 Motels the Suites is great and sounds good on the stereo at 120dB too lol.

I'll post the 73 Zappa OZ interview - which is a good one.

Contemporary Music / Penderecki

I'm not a big Penderecki fan actually, but I picked up the orchestral works 2 CD few days ago which has been quite an enjoyable listen.

Symphony no 1 is my favourite of his works but I found that the Partita for Harpsichord & orchestra and the Cello Concerto also took me back a bit  :o

A little help here???? / Tips For Serial Writing For A Monophonic Instrument
« Last post by nathanb on November 24, 2016, 01:07:13 pm »
I've been playing with this one little formula the last couple of days and I really like some of the rhythmic and dynamic content it generates. Problem is, its current iteration, without further reworking, is most effective for a single voice. I've been fiddling around with a little piece for french horn, but I'm not particularly happy with the pitch side of things.

Has anyone here had success with serial writing for a single voice?

Side Note: In this case, SERIAL =/= TWELVE TONE. Simply a formula that uses a series of numbers as a musical parameter. If you're confused, think Per Nørgård or something like that. Self-generating series.
