What the **** is up with the controversy that still seems to surround this?

Chords, melodies, motifs, linear structures, rhythm, textures (aka anything late romantic), et al is still prevalent in this music. To add to that, the music of these serialists, to be honest; isn't half as extreme as I wish it was.

How can people still get religiously defensive about such a trivial thing? a group of composers carry on (in non-romantic idioms) the tone row idea of Schoenberg and actually start doing something captivating and imaginative and all we get is: "wtf is this shitty music?" "where's the melody?" "I can't dance to this ****?" "I want love songs!!" etc etc etc

blah blah blah, argue argue argue. Neo-classical and Neo-romantic SJW types get triggered the **** out lol

Lou Harrison is an American composer who studied with Schoenberg and John Cage. His music has elements of Eastern music, using pentatonics and exotic scales in a free, improvisatory-sounding manner. Check out the "Largo Ostinato" movement of the Third Symphony. It's like an Indian raga over a drone.
