I'm still deciding, there is a particular mood I want to evoke.
For the overall scope of it, think Kagel meets Schnittke (particularly the polystylism aspect) meets Henry Cowell meets Liszt (for the solo piano)
And I have no idea how I'll pull it off, lol
Sounds excellent

In the classical idiom, no. In rock/jazz yes.
The Piano Concerto I've been working on the past month+ has a speaker/narrator, but I don't think that counts.
Ooh, how interesting. Are you using your own original words in your Piano Concerto?

One of the best ways I've found to expand the size of your orchestrations is to start with a group of idiomatic instruments (String quartet for instance) so 2 violins, viola and cello. You've been writing a lot for voice, so why not try a piece for voice and string quartet/trio?
I'm generally the type though that dives head first, e.g. Compose a symphony, haha
Excellent idea! I've got a lovely idea for a voice and strings piece, I might do that. Have you ever written a piece for voice? I'd be fascinated to see how you approached it.

Thank you for the lovely comments! I've tried writing a couple of pieces for orchestra and chamber ensembles but they didn't come to anything. I have no idea what my next project will be, so it might turn out to be a chamber piece or something.

Oooh, right. I don't remember seeing that when I made this thread, is it new?

I don't know if this is the right place for this thread, but oh well. Unaccompanied choir is my favourite ensemble to write for, but unfortunately I can hardly ever find good texts to set. Does anyone know of any particularly useful sources of poems and texts?

I haven't heard that opera. Do you recommend any particular recordings?

Any forum with a rainbow like button is a good forum as far as I'm concerned.

I bought a wonderful Ligeti CD yesterday, with music for string quartet and some choral stuff. I don't know how some of that is possible with actual human voices

Any other Schnittke worshippers fans here?

Is the inner ego just a manifestation of this thread?
